Artist Statement
My current art practice revolves around nature vs nurture and child development. High rates of depression in Chinese children and adolescents affect those who have been associated with various factors. Domestic factors play a pivotal role in the mental health status. As the absence of parenthood in child development leads to adulthood's unsound personality, my work attempts to directly utilize signifiers of legibility to evoke a lonely gesture. A Teddy bear is a time-honoured plush symbol often used to comfort children when they are upset. The final piece will present a sculpture constituted by toys in the shape of two teddy bears to imitate parenthood. The teddy bear shape indicates the irreplaceable role of parents; however, they are piled up by toys.
